APL I-II Licensure Advancement for Level 1 Teachers

APLI-II consists of five micro-credentials:

• Classroom Environment,
• Assessment Literacy,
• Multi-Layered Systems of Support,
• Culturally Linguistically Responsive Instruction, and
• Family Engagement.

These micro-credentials align with the four domains in Elevate NM and are taken sequentially over approximately 12 weeks each, costing $60 per micro-credential ($300 for the entire program). Educators enrolling in APL Micro-Credentials may only enroll in one micro-credential every quarter (12-week). The program is paced semi-asynchronously with a syllabus containing due dates for assignments, requiring completion by the end of each quarter.

Level 1 teachers can begin the program as early as their first year of teaching and enroll using the APL I-II INTENT TO ENROLL FORM.

PLEASE NOTE: Teachers participating in an alternative licensing program are encouraged to complete all program requirements before enrolling in APL micro-credentials.

APL I-II Micro-Credential Descriptions

ELIGIBILITY TO ADVANCE TO LEVEL 2

A Level 1 teacher is eligible to advance to Level 2 via the APL I-II Micro-Credentials when they have:

• Completed the required mentorship program for Level 1 teachers [NMAC 6.60.10.9]
• Taught three full school years with a Level 1 teaching license and successful annual evaluations for those three years.
• Teachers with an Alternative License must complete the requirements of the Alternative License.
• Successfully completed five required micro-credential courses with a proficiency score of 85% or higher
• Signed APL Micro-Credential Verification Advancement Signature Form from a New Mexico district/charter/private school.

Level 1 Secondary Vocational-Technical (7-12) must meet the above criteria plus the initial requirements:

• Minimum of 15 semester hours in a Secondary Vocational-Technical Education Program including a supervised classroom internship/student teaching experience; or
• Professional Development Plan (PDP) developed by the employing authority and approved by the PED, in place of completion of the 15 semester hours in the Secondary Vocational-Technical Education Program including a supervised classroom internship/student teaching experience; and
• Demonstrate competencies for vocational technical teachers within 3 years of the date of employment.
