Tribal Education Status Report (TESR)

The purpose of the Tribal Education Status Report (TESR) is to provide a clear, concise, and data focused summary of how a school district or charter school is serving Native American students. The TESR is intended to inform pueblos, tribes, and nations within district boundaries, ensuring transparency, accountability, and partnership in supporting student success. This report fulfills statutory obligations under 22-23A-7 New Mexico Statute Annotated (NMSA) 1978 § 22-23A-7 and 6.35.2 New Mexico Administrative Code (NMAC) and is a key communication tool between school districts and tribal partners. The TESR should be accessible, avoid excessive educational jargon, and highlight concrete information and measurable outcomes. This report should provide a balanced and accurate account, celebrate areas of progress while also highlighting persistent challenges. It must help tribal governments, educators, and policymakers identify opportunities for collaboration, resource alignment, and continuous improvement.

The TESR should:

  • Comply with all reporting requirements in state law and administrative code
  • Present succinct, concrete information with minimal educational jargon
  • Highlight district efforts to meet identified needs from tribal consultation and needs assessments
  • Promote transparency, shared accountability, and trust with tribal communities
