Attendance Coach (Pre K-12)
Attendance coach is an individual, not including truancy officers who are employed by law enforcement agencies, licensed by the department whose primary role is to support students in grades Pre-K through 12 to improve their school attendance during their academic career through prevention, non-punitive tiered interventions, parent notification, and community partnerships.
Initial License – Level One Requirements
- $35 fee (non-refundable); and
- Initial application via NMPED Online Licensure Portal; and
- Official sealed transcripts with an associate’s degree from a nationally or regionally accredited college or university that includes at least 15 semester hours in non-remedial degree coursework; or
- Have completed 48 semester hours of academic credit awarded by a nationally or regionally accredited college or university that includes at least 15 semester hours in non-remedial coursework; and
- Possess at least two years of prior professional experience in one or more of the following areas:
- corrections;
- counseling;
- criminal justice;
- education;
- guidance counseling;
- juvenile justice;
- law enforcement;
- psychology;
- public administration;
- social work;
- sociology; or
- other closely related fields, as determined by the department.; and
- Register for background/fingerprints for “Teacher Licensure”.
Please Note: Individuals holding a teaching license or other instructional support license shall be able to take a position as an attendance coach without seeking level 1 license.

- Initial application via NMPED Online Licensure Portal; and
- Official sealed transcripts with a bachelor’s degree from a nationally or regionally accredited college or university that includes at least 30 semester hours in non-remedial degree coursework; and
- Possess at least three years of prior professional experience in one or more of the following areas:
- corrections;
- counseling;
- criminal justice;
- education;
- guidance counseling;
- juvenile justice;
- law enforcement;
- psychology;
- public administration;
- social work;
- sociology; or
- other closely related fields, as determined by the department.; and
- Register for background/fingerprints for “Teacher Licensure”.

Renewal License
- $35 fee (non-refundable) will be valid for a one year grace period for level 2 (from time of expiration). If the expiration date exceeds the grace period a $35.00 would apply; and
- Renewal Application via NMPED Online Licensure Portal; and
- Superintendent’s Recommendation for Continuing Licensure (Must be on School District Letterhead); or
- A notarized letter attesting that you have not been employed and used your New Mexico license(s) during the life of the license(s).
- Note: The earliest you can renew same level license is January of expiring year.
- The Attendance Coach can only advance up to Level 2 (Level 3 does not exist).
- If educator does not have additional valid licenses on file, then must register for background/fingerprints for “Teacher Licensure”.
Delay of application
- Your application is lacking supporting documents listed in the above check list;
- If your license(s) has expired (and you do not have additional valid licenses on file), and your background was completed 24 months or more, you will need to complete a new background for Teacher Licensure. School Employment backgrounds will not be accepted.
